However, the recent global crisis and the <\/span>subsequent<\/span> war in Ukraine brought many <\/span>new great<\/span> challenges. Although Ukraine was granted EU candidate status in June 2022, just a few months after the Russian invasion, accession negotiations officially began in June 2024.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Programme support for Ukraine<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Ukraine is a key political and ODA partner for Slovakia, making it a natural first-choice partner for collaboration with UNDP under the Slovak partnership.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the initial Public Finance for Development project, an initial assessment of government needs and a mapping of interventions by other donors were conducted. The subsequent activities centered on the strategies developed for reforming public finance management. With the assistance of Slovak experts, the methodology, design, and implementation framework for the strategy were established, including a detailed sequence of steps for public finance reform to achieve the desired outcomes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2018, following an evaluation of the programmes effectiveness in Ukraine, considering the evolving needs of recipients, the dynamics of cooperation, and the programme positioning within the donor community, activities under the Public Finance for Development program in Ukraine were suspended. However, the development and needs of the Ukrainian government continue to be monitored, and assistance can be provided through the program once Ukraine clearly defines its requirements.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
