The ReWaste project was launched at a working meeting hosted by Deponija d.o.o. Podgorica.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><!--more--><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ReWaste project aims to modernize the waste systems in <a href=\"https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/en\/cierna-hora\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Montenegro<\/a>, reduce environmental impact, and maximize the reuse of waste. This two-year initiative is jointly implemented by UNDP Montenegro and Deponija d.o.o. Podgorica that hosted a working meeting on 4 April 2025 to officially introduce the project.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by Slovak Ambassador Boris Gandel, State Secretary at the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Nenad Vitomirovi\u0107, Deputy Mayor of Podgorica Boris Spalevi\u0107 and UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Ekaterina Paniklova with their associates.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4276 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251-1536x1022.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/publicfinance.undp.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-5251.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Expert Insights to Drive Change<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To lay the groundwork for ReWaste, Slovak waste management expert <strong>Ivan Peschl<\/strong> visited Podgorica for a three-day assessment. He met with local stakeholders and examinthe current waste infrastructure and operations, focusing on the sanitary landfill managed by Deponija d.o.o. Podgorica.<\/p>\n<p>His findings will form part of an analysis that will guide the development of a more efficient, integrated waste management system that aligns with EU environmental standards and supports Montenegro\u2019s progress under Chapter 27 of the EU accession process.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Goals of the <em>ReWaste<\/em> Project<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Waste management is becoming an increasingly pressing challenge in Montenegro. In response, the project is focused on enhancing the country\u2019s waste management system. Inspired by Slovakia, the initiative aims to integrate the collection, storage and use of municipal waste in the city of Podgorica and its surroundings. The project aims to improve waste collection, increase recycling rates and align national practices with EU environmental standards.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of recycling will be to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to use it as a new source of raw materials or energy.
