The Pontis Foundation cordially invites all professionals in the field of international development to attend the International Conference “Development and Democracy”. The message of this year is: Sustainable World with No One left behind. During the MF SR panel discussion the speakers will try to find and answer to a question – how can Innovation work for the most vulnerable people?
The Conference will take place at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in Slovakia on October 27, 2016. The list of discussions includes these topics: How can development cooperation and humanitarian assistance work better together to address current migration and security challenges?; Visegrad Partners and Western Balkan CSOs for Development; How to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable? At the conference, the organizers will host Kapuscinski Development Lectures guest Alaa Murabit, founder of the Voice of Libyan Women and UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.
There will be also the Ministry Of Finance (MF SR) Discussion table with the theme: “Disrupting Development: Does Innovation Work for the Most Vulnerable?” with the moderator: Rastislav Vrbenský from UNDP. Guest speakers will try to answer following questions (with the regard on new 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Data Revolution report): can innovation play a role of bringing the emerging disruptors of the international development and large, multinational organizations such as the UN and the World Bank closer together in an effort to bridge the digital divide and create programs that will extend to those most marginalized and vulnerable? What role can the new donors play to stimulate this type of new collaborations? How might the development organizations need to change in order to collaborate more with the emerging rank of new players in the field? How has the role of citizen changed in the context of development work?
The conference is organized under the auspices of the Slovak Presidency in the Council of the European Union. It’s supported by UNDP, MF SR, MFEA SR, SlovakAid and other institutions. Find more information here.
